The Young Artists Program is having their end-of-semester Chamber Ensemble concert this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Zimmerli Art Museum! This concert is the culmination of a semester’s worth of work, and will include works by Beethoven, Brahms, Bridge, and Jason DeRulo, among others! Some of our best and brightest will be performing at this concert, so you won’t want to miss it!
The Young Artists Program, or YAP for short, is one of the more exceptional programs for young musicians and composers in New Jersey, and we’re still accepting students who wish to audition! If you are interested, please check the Registration page for more information!
This Sunday, please join us at the Zimmerli Art Museum for the Young Artists Program Forum with Extension Division faculty members Tara Buzash, Will Macirowski, Isaac Dye, and Dan Silverstein! The Music at the Museum concert will follow after the forum. We hope to see you there!
On November 22nd, 2015, The Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division and Music Department, in partnership with the American String Teachers Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) is proud to present the 2015 ASTA/NJ String Symposium and All-State Workshop for teachers and students.
Students will have the opportunity to polish their All-State Audition selections by participating in workshops and mock auditions led by members of the Mason Gross Music Department. Teachers are invited to audit workshop sessions, join in an ASTA/NJ led panel discussion, and participate in a reading session. Luncheon for teachers is included in the registration fee.
It is $75 for teachers and adults participants, $40 for seniors (65+), and $25 for students. Parents of students may attend the event free of charge. Click on the flyer below for more information!
Carlos Franzetti has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Award as Best Classical Composition for “Capriccio,” recorded by YAP Artistic Director and Adult Chamber Music Director Allison Brewster Franzetti on “Franzetti Plays Franzetti” released by Amapola Records in April 2015! Congratulations to the both of them!
Congratulations to one of our Young Artist Program participants, Sunny Liang, for achieving 2nd place in the Young Musicians Competition hosted by the New Jersey Music Teachers Association. The competition was held on Sunday, October 25th, and her category was junior string players ages 11-14. Sunny is a student of Mira Kang.
Performances & Forums
Our next forum will take place at the Zimmerli Art Museum, located at 71 Hamilton Avenue New Brunswick, on Sunday, November 15 at 1 PM. The presenters will be cellists Jonathan Spitz, string coordinator for Mason Gross School of the Arts Music Department, and Susannah Chapman, one of our new faculty members. Their forum will be followed by a concert at 2 PM entitled, “Cello Extravaganza,” which will also include faculty members Mira Kang and Jordan Enzinger. These events are free and open to the public.
YAP artistic director Allison Brewster Franzetti will be performing at the opening concert of the Latin American Culture Week on Thursday, November 12. This concert will take place at Merkin Concert Hall in New York, located at 129 West 67th Street. Dr. Franzetti and her husband, Grammy Winner and multiple Latin Grammy Winner Carlos Franzetti, will perform together as part of Latin American Culture Week at the Flamboyán Theater, Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center, located at 107 Suffolk St, (Lower Level) New York.
